One of the many important aspects incorporated into the mission of the Delta Chi Fraternity is dedicating time to raise money and give back to the community. In the previous year, our brothers have made the Rutgers Chapter one of the most prominent in community service and philanthropy nationwide. Last semester alone the Rutgers Chapter of Delta Chi raised over $10,000 for the Jimmy V Foundation for cancer research. This is a huge accomplishment for our Brotherhood that all of us are extremely proud of.
The Jimmy V Foundation is an organization that all Delta Chi Chapters across the nation raise money for. A total of $50,000 was raised across the U.S. last year, with our Chapter accounting for 20% of that total alone. We achieved this through many hours of service in establishing and running our Dodge This! Tournament along with our Jimmy V meal swipe program. Dodge This! is a dodge ball tournament which we, along with Alpha Chi Omega sorority, organize and run annually. The meal swipe program is a way that allows Rutgers Students to donate meal swipes towards one philanthropic organization’s cause per semester. No Greek organization had been granted this privilege before the Fall 2007 semester, where Delta Chi was granted the chance to raise money for Jimmy V. Both events helped us attain this great achievement.
Some of the other community service activities that we have been heavily involved with include dedicating hours towards Dance Marathon, the Rutgers Big Chill 5k Run, the Raritan River Cleanup, and many other causes as well. At Rutgers, all Greek organizations are required to have each brother or sister devote five hours of community service per semester. However, at Delta Chi, each brother is required to serve ten hours to the community. This demonstrates the importance of the community to Delta Chi and exhibits our willingness to go above and beyond the standards that are set. We believe that our dedication to what we do defines us as a chapter and sets higher expectations for what the responsibilities and character of a Fraternity Man should be.
